Statement:
I am intrigued by the space in-between shapes. Whether this is designed on paper or sculpted with clay, shapes are present everywhere. My work has no apparent concept to it, but the process is what is important in my art. It is up to the viewer to interpret everything, and apply the emotions they receive for. The work is created for me; functional pieces, however, could be shared with anyone. Art shouldn't be made to fulfill anyone else’s expectations. If you are happy with your work, than keep making it for the enjoyment; don’t stop because of the criticism. Previously I have explored the basic mediums of acrylic, colored pencils, and watercolor. Incorporating these mixed media into my ceramics could create an interesting final outcome.
Inspiration can be found everywhere; it can be found in school, nature, people, cities... anything. Experiencing new things can be a way to spark new ideas. For my future work I hope to dig deeper into the reasons why shapes fascinate me and discover a concept along the way. However, I do not want to be tied down by a concept when I could make anything in the world! If I focus on one idea too closely I could miss an opportunity to make something incredible.
